The article “The Schools’ Lobbyist” made me aware that the San Diego Unified School District board employed a government relations director and lobbyist. An expenditure more wisely spent, I could not say. In this article, this lobbyist seems to duplicate our representatives to the state government: assembly members Nathan Fletcher and Toni Atkins and state senator Christine Kehoe. We are paying, collectively, over $300,000/year of our (taxpayers’) money for their services.

I realize the board members would like to have someone at their fingertips, whose sole job would be to act at their direction (“gofer”). It would be interesting/revealing to validate the school district’s staffing requirements in light of the overall funding shortages?
