From the Reporter
What’s The Issue?
Mayoral candidate Bob Filner wants to mandate that all city and school buildings be powered by solar energy in five years. It’s a key part of his economic development plan.
What Will That Entail?
It’s unclear. Details matter and for now Filner doesn’t have them. If he wants to power all city buildings entirely through solar energy then it would take an 11,000-percent increase in city solar production.
How Far Will He Go?
Filner is aligning himself with developers of an alternative to energy giant San Diego Gas & Electric. Any conflict with the existing utility could have substantial effects on his solar plan.
