Big news came out of the San Diego Unified School District last week. Superintendent Bill Kowba announced his resignation and the school board quickly named his successor: Cindy Marten, principal of Central Elementary in City Heights.

In the latest edition of VOSD Radio, Will Carless and Scott Lewis examine some of the challenges Marten will face and the strategies the district will use to close next year’s budget gap.

Plus, check out:

• The Number of the Week: $40 million. That’s how much San Diego Association of Governments is looking for in bids for public relations contracts over the next five years.

• In Fact Check land: Mayor Bob Filner gets a “Misleading” for a claim about an alternate plan to remove cars from Balboa Park’s Plaza de Panama.

And find out why VOSD Radio named Marten as Hero of the Week and the San Diego Unified school board and attorney as Goat of the Week. Listen here.
