Watching the Padres game Sunday, I was struck by an exchange between announcers Mark Grant and Dick Enberg, who were trying to think of reasons to stay positive. (The Padres lost 9-1 to the Rockies).

Mark Grant: “I know it’s a chick flick, but remember the Titanic. Remember Jack Dawson? He’s hanging on the door, in the ocean. He’s staying positive to Rose. ‘Hang in there, Rose. We’re going to get through this.’ Right?”

Dick Enberg: “Why did you have to preface it with that comment?”

Grant: “It’s a chick flick.”

Enberg: “The Titanic sinking?”

Grant: “No, just the whole love story.”

Enberg: “Oh, you’re not into the romantic love story?”

Grant: “Nah. Anyway, you got to remain positive, right? Bud Black is Jack Dawson.”

In the movie, of course, Dawson dies. The Padres are 1-5 and the home opener is Tuesday.
