Melani Gordon, the special guest on this week’s hour-long podcast, combines two up-and-coming sectors around San Diego: craft beer and tech start-ups.

The chief executive of Bevato – a platform for bars and restaurants to manage their alcohol beverage setups – and creator of TapHunter, which helps booze fans track down their favorite brews around San Diego and see what’s on tap on any given day, said we could be doing more to support tech development downtown.

Fresh off the kickoff of Beer Week, Gordon had plenty of insight to offer on supporting start-up development across spread-out San Diego, and what this year holds for the hoppy event without funding by the Tourism Marketing District.

Plus, co-hosts Scott Lewis and Andrew Keatts weighed in on what both sides of the affordable housing fee controversy are doing wrong, and how the media landscape is changing. Note: The show was recorded early Friday, before the announcement that the U-T would buy eight community papers.

Find out why U-T Watchdog editor Ricky Young is Hero of the Week, while Cindy Marten is Goat of the Week.
