One of the many benefits of listening to the VOSD Podcast is that you get scoops. Listeners of last week’s show certainly got one, which is why they weren’t surprised this week when San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria announced he was eliminating the position of chief operating officer. That effectively dismissed the person in that job: Eric Dargan.

Last week we told you about a growing frustration among City Councilmembers and at least one union leader with the way the city was running. One person went as far as to ask if anyone was running the city.

The news: Mayor Gloria will take over the responsibilities of COO. What that will look like and if he can do the job, remains to be seen.

On the show this week, our hosts explain San Diego’s strong mayor system and what this change means for the city.
