Good news for San Diego Unified in a bad economy: Bids for renovating schools are still coming in well under what engineers had estimated.
A report shared with bond overseers yesterday showed that San Diego Unified will spend $46.2 million on the projects it has awarded so far — more than $14 million shy of the original estimate of $60.3 million. The downside of this economy, of course, is that it will take the school district longer to get all the money it needs to build all the projects, lengthening the lifetime of the bond and delaying some projects.
