Tuesday, July 26, 2005 | With things heating up in the Golden Baseball League, the Surf Dawgs found themselves hosting the Arizona League-leading Yuma Scorpions. The Scorpions stung the Mesa Miners and moved into first place over the previous weekend. Riding high, Yuma won the first game of the series 7-3, but the Dawgs came charging back the following night to win 9-5.

A strong outing by pitcher Jeff Blitstein, giving up only two unearned runs with four strikeouts and John Bokers’ 12th save put the team quickly back into winning form. The final game in the series went to the Dawgs 9-1 behind Seth Pietsch’s three hits and Cody Clark’s two doubles. Donovan Graves provided the defense with seven strong innings of pitching.
