We’ve received some complaints today regarding the headline “Aguirre Replaced in Suits.” The headline refers for our account of the City Council’s actions Tuesday to bring in outside attorneys to work on two high-profile legal cases that were dealt setbacks in court last week.

Some have said the headline is inaccurate because City Attorney Mike Aguirre still makes all final decisions over any outside legal help brought into to handle the city’s lawsuits – a valid point.

Our thinking behind the headline: Aguirre or his deputies headed up the legal defense of these two lawsuits, and it appeared as if that would change with council’s decision to hire outside counsel Tuesday. We in no way meant to imply that Aguirre had been replaced as the city’s chief legal advisor. Nuances often can get lost in trying to make a headline fit into small spaces.
