San Diego’s set to install 50 new parking meters that will take it easy on your coin purse – but perhaps tougher on your credit card.
Mayor Jerry Sanders is slated to announce Monday a pilot program to put 50 solar-powered meters downtown that allow parkers to use traditional parking cards, coins or credit cards. Each new meter will replace 10 traditional – or “single head” – meters.
The new meters will also report to city staff how many cars have parked on any given day, how much money in the meter and when a meter is malfunctioning.
The mayor is slated to initiate the first transaction with a credit card.
