Thursday, June 8, 2006 | After reading “From Carrot to Stick with Navy” By Peter Q. Davis, Its very obvious this man should have been mayor of San Diego. He is right on target in depicting the navy’s attitude and self goals that apparently do not include the citizens of San Diego County.

I remember as a kid watching the sailors and soldiers running down Broadway on the morning of Dec. 7, 1941 heading towards their ships that would take them to the far corners of the world. It saddens me to see this new attitude in the 21st Century. San Diego has growing pains and the Navy and the Marines hold the key to its progress by having such a hold on vital property. As an example, it’s difficult to imagine a huge metropolis like San Diego having a military base the size of Miramar right in the middle. In the past the navy and the city have had a good working relationship and I see no reason that can’t continue. Mr. Davis’s knowledge of our area’s history is extremely enlightening and there’s always another mayoral race just down the road.
