I just spoke to Jim McElroy on the phone. He’s the attorney who’s leading the charge, on behalf of his client Phillip Paulson, to have the Mount Soledad Cross removed from its perch atop La Jolla.
McElroy was busy working on a brief he’s filing with the Supreme Court in opposition to San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders’ decision to again petition the Supreme Court to hear the city’s case for saving the cross.
He said the city’s action is a “long long long shot,” and said it’s akin to the last two minutes of a football game.
“They’re trying to kick a 90-yard field goal, and there’s not much chance it’s going to work.”
Even a dumb Brit like me who doesn’t really understand American sports can figure out that analogy.
