Lance Cpl. Jerry E. Shumate Jr. waived his right to enter a plea during an arraignment this morning at Camp Pendleton. The decision not to enter a plea at this time could be a sign that a plea agreement is in the works.

Shumate six other Marines and a Navy medic are charged with murder, kidnapping, conspiracy and other crimes in connection with the April 26 shooting death of Hashim Ibrahim Awad, a resident of Hamdaniya, Iraq.
