Hey, if a local political blog is not the place for speculation about elections that are years away, what is?

April Boling just confirmed that she is planning to run for Jim Madaffer’s City Council seat in District 7. Rumor had it that Johnnie Perkins was also pondering a run for the seat.

But Perkins was a bit less committal than Boling.

“I am very seriously considering it. There are some family decisions that need to be made and we’re in the middle of that process,” Perkins said.

He said “tough decisions” need to be made at City Hall.

“San Diego has gotten off track as to what it is in business to do. These are extraordinary times that require strong leadership, accountability, integrity and the courage to reform how San Diego does business,” Perkins said. Perkins works for EDCO Disposal Corporation. He was the government affairs director for the city of San Diego’s firefighters union until last year.

Boling, an accountant and treasurer for many political campaigns and officials, said she had made her decision to run.

She said city leaders have exhibited too much “blind trust.”

“What’s needed is the self assurance to ask questions and the ability to analyze and assess the responses. I believe I can serve the city by bringing that ability to the table – credentials count,” she said.
