Over at Election Central, I stopped to chat with Jess Durfee, the chairman of the San Diego County Democratic Party. He was not amused by the malfunctions of the voting computers across the county.
“The management of our local elections is a disaster,” he said. And he didn’t hesitate to point the finger at Mikel Haas, the county registrar of voters.
“I, frankly, think it’s time for Haas to move on,” Durfee said. “It’s time for the Board of Supervisors to put someone in that role and hold them accountable. We’ve had multiple elections with problems.”
Durfee’s own polling place was handicapped by technical difficulties and had resorted to paper ballots by 9:00 a.m., he said.
“There’s no excuse for that,” he said.
