The San Diego County Regional Airport Authority is spending $54,000 for a consultant to provide “strategic services” and counsel on the hearings and eventual legislation expected to come from State Sen. Christine Kehoe, D-San Diego.
The contract with McBee Strategic Consulting, a Washington D.C. firm, was awarded as a sole-source contract, meaning that it was not competitively bid – a process most government contracts undergo.
Kehoe is holding a second hearing on the airport authority’s future Friday, as she considers legislation that could restructure the authority. A bill could be introduced as soon as next month.
McBee‘s clients include American Airlines, the Port of Seattle and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.
