Bob Watkins, the new airport authority board member appointed by Sheriff William Kolender, just called to say that he can’t confirm his appointment.
Kolender’s office sent out a news release announcing his choice of Watkins at 2:39 p.m.
Watkins, though, has been in a meeting this afternoon, and said “I don’t know anything about it.”
“I can’t comment,” Watkins said. “I have not heard from anybody. I’ll just wait until I see the paper or Voice of San Diego. No one has contacted me to tell me that.”
Except me, apparently.
We’re pretty sure Watkins is the sheriff’s nomination – even though he’ll still need to be confirmed by county supervisors. Here’s the sheriff’s 2:39 p.m. news release.
