At a press conference today announcing further indictments in the Cunningham scandal, U.S. Attorney Carol Lam acknowledged it could be her last such meeting in office. Under pressure to step down from the U.S. Department of Justice, Lam announced last month that her last day would be Thursday.
Asked whether timing of the indictments announced today for Brent Wilkes, Kyle “Dusty” Foggo and John T. Michael was linked to her leaving office in two days, Lam denied any relation between those two events.
“I’m sure there’s going to be a lot of speculation about the timing of these, but I will say this unequivocally right now that there’s been no change in the timing of these indictments based on recent events,” she said.
“The only factors that went into … this indictment was the evidence in the case and the propriety of bringing the charges as evaluated by the grand jury,” Lam said.
