Carlsbad will be featured on HGTV’s “What You’ll Get for the Money” Feb. 25 and Feb. 26. The show takes an asking price — in this case $700,000 — and then travels around the country comparing homes selling for that price.

The upcoming episode features an “octagon-shaped, mid-century, modern house, complete with 1960s colors and style,” according to the episode guide. The Carlsbad home will be compared to a Rhode Island beach house and a wheelchair-accessible, environmentally friendly home on 21 acres in Charlottesville, Va. I’ve spent some time in Charlottesville, Va., so I can say that 21 acres there will be hard to beat. It’s a great little town.

Anyway, the discovery got me to wondering how often San Diego is featured on HGTV’s many real estate shows? Turns out the answer is a lot. San Diego was the setting for two recent episodes of “House Hunters” (in early January and early February) and will be featured in upcoming episodes of “Dream Drives” (March 9 and March 19). Ok, “Dream Drives” isn’t really a real estate show, but it is a lifestyles show and what is real estate about if not lifestyle? And San Diego realtor Joby Francis was the expert realtor on both episodes of “House Hunters.” We’ll have to track him down and find out how he got to be featured on HGTV.
