Citizen journalism is a concept that both intrigues and frightens journalism-types. It opens up the playing field to anyone with a keyboard, regardless of an individual’s motivations or credentials.

San Diego has its share of bloggers, writing on local issues ranging from politics to business to sports. Here’s a pretty comprehensive directory of local bloggers called, conveniently enough, San Diego Bloggers.com.

Among the list: a comprehensive Padres-focused blog called Ducksnorts, a meet-up site for techies to share ideas and job leads called Web San Diego, and neighborhood-specific sites like SD Urban , which has recent posts about local dining, new downtown construction and even chance meetings on the street.

What’s your take on the prevalence of blogs? What’s the ideal purpose of a blog? And the million-dollar question: How will blogs eventually be monetized?
