Sunroad Enterprises said today that the office of Mayor Jerry Sanders asked it to cease raising money for a firefighting helicopter. The company said it had raised or given $800,000 of the $1 million it originally pledged over five years to fund a firefighting helicopter in 2004.

“We are right here at the beginning of the fire season, and the Mayor’s Office has asked Sunroad to stop its fundraising activities,” said company spokeswoman Karen Hutchens.

We’re still waiting to hear from the Mayor’s Office.
