Thursday, Sept. 27, 2007 | Critics of the illegal immigration study are disturbed that the study reflects the costs of illegal immigration more than the benefits, and that the study was supported by an opponent of illegal immigration. Of course, we can turn this criticism on its head and consider the reaction to a study favoring illegals. I think few from academia would be perturbed by this kind of one-sidedness. In fact, one academic said he is opposed to politically supported studies that promote a certain viewpoint, but if an academic is equally biased, but not supported by politicians, this is somehow OK.
