Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2008 | Would someone please write an article that is specific – spells out – that the Chargers in Chula Vista will mean the taxpayers of Chula Vista would be handing over both the bay front site and the eastern site? The bay front would house the stadium and the university site would be developed to finance it. Those are the facts.

No one that I speak to here in CV understands this. They all think it would be an either/or situation. The people on the west side would not mind the stadium on the east side, the east siders want it on the bay. No one wants the traffic, noise, etc. in their own backyard, but many are enamored with the idea of an NFL team in “their hometown.” The vast majority of people who want the team here are newcomers and live on the east side of town. They have no roots in this city.

A stadium on the serene south end of S.D. bay would destroy the ambiance that is so precious. The site is abutted by a wildlife habitat which is totally incompatible with the blare and glare of major league sports. The idea of surrounding the stadium with “a grass and treed park” which would serve as a parking lot during games is ludicrous.
