Thursday, Jan. 31, 2008 | Water conservation is a fraud. We are capable of producing an infinite number of people, but we cannot produce an infinite amount of water. All the conservation measures together will eventually fail. There is only a limited supply of “natural water.” Desalting the ocean is limited by energy, space and cost. The premise that we cannot prevent people from coming here will lead to an ever diminishing quality of life. If everyone conserves 25 percent, it only means 25 percent more houses can be built – a sum zero game. How can we control the population? By having laws that require a developer prove there is a 30-year supply of water before a subdivision can be built. But wait! There is such a law now – it is just being ignored by our planners and politicians.
