Friday, March 14, 2008 | I am a native San Diegan, a freshman at Stanford University, and an avid voiceofsandiego.org reader. I just wanted to thank you for your exceptional piece on Curie Elementary. I have lived my entire life in University City, graduating from Curie in 2000, and I view with pride the fact I am a product of the California public education system (University City High School, class of 2007).

Like most concerned citizens of this state, I am quite disturbed by the governor’s cuts to education. Our schools are terribly under served currently, and I am having difficulty in seeing how our state can further weaken our centers of learning. Though Curie is blessed in having a highly proactive PTA, the budget crisis hits quite literally close to home when I read of my former school being forced to essentially shut down its library.

So thank you again for the article.
