Friday, March 21, 2008 | Proposition A is advertised as a “clean up” measure, i.e., a provision to straighten out sloppy language in a previous proposition involving outsourcing. It would prohibit outsourcing police, fire and lifeguard services. This proposition is also unbelievably poorly drawn.

If it passes, stand by for the firefighters union to try to get rid of existing outsourced paramedic services. Their argument will be that, since firefighters also do paramedic functions, this is tantamount to firefighting. You might also look for the MEA to attempt to make all lifeguard positions year-round by preventing the hiring of temporary summer guards.
