So, last night, when I was scrambling to get my story done, I called a bunch of political consultants who aren’t involved in the city attorney’s race to get their input on the fundraising efforts of each of the candidates.
One guy I didn’t get the chance to talk to before my deadline is Republican political consultant Duane Dichiara. In the interests of political fairness, since I quoted Democratic political consultant Larry Remer in today’s story, I thought I’d pass on a couple of comments from my conversation with Dichiara just now.
Dichiara said he’s been surprised by how little money is being thrown around in the city attorney’s race.
“I expected this to just be a bloody mess, but it’s been pretty quiet so far,” Dichiara said.
Dichiara said it is a tough year for fundraising, but that fundraising is always tough. He said Aguirre’s rather scant fundraising total is indicative of the fact that the voters don’t support him and don’t want to help him out. And he said it’s time for Aguirre’s foes to start putting their money where their mouth is.
“For the people who want to get rid of Aguirre, it’s time to put up or shut up,” Dichiara said. “Pick your guy and get to it.”
