Following up on this bit of campaign drama, Fred Sainz, spokesman to Mayor Jerry Sanders, described as “patently false” the claim made today by a Steve Francis supporter that the mayor directed an F-bomb Francis’ way at the end of a debate Sunday.

“It is patently false. I was there. It’s laughable. It’s absolutely laughable,” Sainz said while actually laughing. “Everyone who’s ever met Jerry Sanders knows he’s an absolute gentleman.”

Sainz acknowledged that the mayor didn’t shake Francis’ hand at the end of the debate. He said the mayor was interested in getting off the stage because of another event would be occupying the stage. “There wasn’t the kind of ‘All My Children’ moment that Pat Flannery is describing,” Sainz said.

I’m still waiting on comment from the Francis campaign.
