I just cornered Jan Goldsmith, city attorney candidate, as he walked into Golden Hall.

He was rushing to an interview with a television station, but he gave me a couple of minutes. Goldsmith said he’s been spending the last two days on street corners, waving at traffic.

“I was out there yesterday, and I forgot my sunblock,” he said.

His nose was peeling slightly.

I asked Goldsmith what he thought about Aguirre not being here.

“He’s at his daughter’s graduation isn’t he,” he said. “That’s fair enough.”

Then he politely backed away, off to his interview.
