Golden handshake watch: The San Diego Unified school board just approved an exit bonus for paraeducators, a group of employees that includes teaching assistants who work primarily with students with disabilities. They are the latest group to join in on the bonus, which has also been approved for administrators, clerical workers and school police officers. The employee group whose retirements could generate the biggest savings — teachers — have not yet agreed to the bonus because of disagreements with the school district over whether the savings should be used to bring teachers’ salaries closer to the county median.
