Friday, April 10, 2009 | We take our family to Monterey, CA every few years to visit the aquarium. When I am there, I am always impressed with the conservation efforts they have made. Even businesses away from the aquarium make a point of asking their customers to conserve water, paper, and electricity. I try to do these things anyway, but leave Monterey with a greater awareness of my impact on the earth’s resources. It is frustrating to return to San Diego, knowing that our leaders and citizens live in a bubble. We have lived in a townhouse for over ten years and have had recycling there maybe one year (since the new law was passed requiring recycling in multifamily dwellings). I feel like we in San Diego are decades behind other communities in asking or mandating change. There is far more we can do, if we have the will to do so.
