Friday, May 1, 2009 | When I grow up I want to be Mel Shapiro, an activist who challenges the local leaders on a weekly basis. Not being there yet, I bristle at what is said and what is done. “People may doubt what you say, but they will believe what you do.”

Libraries need to move up in line, both branches and that central library promised when Prop C passed. Central needs to move in front of the convention center expansion. No more challenging the design; get it done. No more whining about no money; get it done. Yeah, the recession, depression, deferred decisions by leaders are major concerns. Get it done anyway.

Ask Mr. Moores to give back to the community a gift made possible by his sweetheart deal at PetCo. He can even have naming rights for rooms far apart, one for him and one for his ex.

Carl DeMaio is smart and an asset to City Council. He needs a dose of wisdom from Marti Emerald and Sherri Lightner. While libraries don’t make money, you can’t put a pricetag on the value of a central library in a city like San Diego. Ask Tony Young, the teacher. Get it done, Todd Gloria. Kevin Faulconer and Donna Frye, lead the way. Ben Hueso, get it done.
