In yesterday morning’s Agenda I linked to an Associated Press story that listed Democratic state Assemblywoman and county Supervisor candidate Lori Saldaña among state politicians under investigation by the California Fair Political Practices Commission. The commission contends Saldaña was one of 38 state lawmakers who failed to report gifts in 2008.

Saldaña sent me an e-mail with her explanation. She said in the three cases referenced, hosts of those meetings did not submit letters to her office detailing meal costs.

“When this happens I do not know what to report,” Saldaña wrote. She added one person who didn’t send a letter acknowledged it was their error and offered to cover the fine, but Saldaña declined.

Local legislators Dennis Hollingsworth, Martin Garrick, Christine Kehoe and Mary Salas are also on the fail-to-report list, and I’ll post if they’d like to send explanations, too.
