Statement: “Among other things, the mayor discussed ways that [the National Endowment for the Arts] might partner with San Diego to help the city celebrate its centennial in 2015,” a press release posted on the city’s website Monday says.

Determination: False

Analysis: The city of San Diego was incorporated in 1850, so its centennial celebration would have been celebrated in 1950, not five years from now.

The press release meant to say the city would be celebrating the centennial of the Panama-California Exposition at Balboa Park, a 1915 world’s fair. Mayoral spokeswoman Rachel Laing said the error would be corrected soon.
