The top financial leader of San Diego Unified was put on paid administrative leave last Thursday, according to district relations chief Bernie Rhinerson, who said he could not disclose any further details.

Chief Financial Officer James Masias was hired by former Superintendent Terry Grier in June 2008 and steered the school district through year after year of budget crises. He recently helped the school board put together a plan to balance its 2010-2011 budget by furloughing teachers, shortening programs in Old Town and Balboa Park and other cuts.

I’ll send any more details as I find them out.
