The Navy Broadway Complex Coalition (NBCC), to which I belong, today sent comments to the California Coastal Commission on its April 1 staff report regarding the North Embarcadero Visionary Project, Phase 1 Coastal Development Permit (CDP).

In our comments, the NBCC points out that the port’s proposed CDP would violate both the California Coastal Act and the California Environmental Quality Act.

Having clearly made that point, the NBCC also suggested language adding additional conditions to the CCC’s April 1 staff report. We believe that these suggested conditions will make it far more likely that the alternative Waterfront Destination Park, which is called for in the staff report, and the Navy Pier Park, which the port was supposed to begin construction on back in 2003, will actually get built this time around.
