Before heading to Qualcomm Stadium on Saturday to cover the Chargers preseason matchup against the Chicago Bears, I was perusing the photo blog of the Chicago Tribune’s Scott Strazzante.

He’s a talented street photographer and he got me thinking about applying street photography techniques around the stadium.

So, rather than messing around on the field prior to the game, I spent some time roaming the stands and shooting whatever unfolded.

About halfway through doing so, I realized that I was creating a counter-post to this one from last season, which showed Qualcomm Stadium immediately after the last game of the year. I continued shooting with that in mind — eventually creating what I’m calling “Lights Up on Qualcomm” — a look at some quiet moments in the stadium as it takes its first few breaths and begins to come alive for another season.
