The Big Change

The county supervisor race between Ron Roberts and Stephen Whitburn could shift power on key land-use decisions in which millions of dollars in property and large swaths of undeveloped land are at stake.

The Job

County supervisors regulate land use across vast stretches of the backcountry, and Roberts has been a swing vote on growth and development issues.

The Candidates

Roberts, a moderate Republican, is considered a centrist on land use. Whitburn is considered a more reliable ally of environmentalists.
