Here are a couple of ways to catch up on my story last week on the way unexpected property tax bills and rent increases have hampered the vision for an arts district in the former Naval Training Center.

The nutshell version: The nonprofit NTC Foundation is rehabilitating and managing the 26 buildings, an effort the foundation’s board chairman characterized as “creating the next Balboa Park” in February. But the byproducts of creating for-profits to go after particular funding could price out the very arts organizations the buildings are being rehabbed to house.
