We’ve spent the week in Portland and nearby towns, kicking off our musical adventures by playing the ceremony music for the nuptials of my dear friends Kaitlin Barker and VOSD’s Rob Davis at a magical garden and brewery called McMenamin’s Edgefield last weekend. We’ve been spoiled all week with berries and homemade ice cream and general grandparent-and-parent hospitality, necessitating a hike up to a waterfall around the back of Mt. Hood. Have I mentioned I love trees?

Last night was a big night for us. We played at the Doug Fir Lounge, a venue that we’ve all wanted to play for a long time. It was a big honor. We shared the stage with our friends, the Portland band John Heart Jackie, that opened for us at the San Diego Woman’s Club for our record release show in February. And more friends, Norman, headlined the night. To play a set of music for a crowd of some of our family and childhood friends was really special, and we even had a few San Diego pals in the crowd.

Tonight we play in Corvallis, and we’ll hop in the studio to add a few touches to Norman’s current recording project before heading up to Seattle on Sunday. Next week: My home and native land.

Hope all’s well in San Diego. Any sights we should be sure to keep our eyes peeled for as we head north?
