The Issue
Hoteliers want to keep a 2 percent charge on San Diego hotel visitors’ bills around for the next 40 years.
Why It Matters
The charge allows hoteliers to promote San Diego, but also likely keeps the city from raising taxes on visitors to pay for general city services. That’s compounded by a proposed Convention Center expansion that would be financed with another boost.
What’s Next
City Council will vote Monday to take the first step in renewing the charge, but more votes will follow.
