Please count me as one of those who are opposed to the construction of the “Wings” public art project for the San Diego waterfront. It is pretty ugly and does not really convey the seaside atmosphere of San Diego as currently envisioned. In fact, it DOES look like bunny ears.

Most of the public art projects in and around the airport and Embarcadero are failures in terms of being interesting, or thought provoking, or even aesthetically pleasing.

Please go to Sacramento and check out their airport art. It’s wonderful, especially the glass art used for the walls, the suitcase tower, and the magical airplanes emanating from the car park.

Ours is soulless and in some cases silly. So don’t spend any more money on second-rate art. Let’s wait until we do get an idea for something as lovely as the Sydney Opera House.
