This edition of Fact Check TV in partnership with NBC7 San Diego examines statements by Ron Carrico, a columnist for the Daily Transcript, and Randy Ward, superintendent of the San Diego County Office of Education.

Carrico correctly cited the wealth of Chargers’ owner Alex Spanos. With an estimated net worth of $1.1 billion last year, Forbes Magazine ranked Spanos and his immediate family 375th in the nation.

Ward accurately described the number of financially-stressed school districts in San Diego County but then exaggerated how that number compares across the state. He portrayed San Diego County as being in better financial shape than most of the state, which the numbers he cited don’t back up.
