We’ve been discovering a lot about how theater is made in our new Arts: Embedded series.
Our look at “How I Got That Story” tracked the play’s movement from an idea to the stage, opening last weekend. One key point of intrigue for us was the way the company invited local combat veterans to rehearsals to help the actors learn how to portray the story accurately, since it’s set in a fictionalized warzone that resembles Vietnam.
Want to see the play? Mo’olelo is offering a discount of $5 for tickets for the handful of performances left this weekend and next. Just enter the code “mystory” if you buy tickets online or call 619-342-7395.
And we’ve just cooked up something special: We’re taking a VOSD field trip to the theater! If you’re a member of VOSD (i.e. you’ve ever helped financially support our nonprofit service), you can get a ticket for yourself and your friends for $10 each instead of $30 to Mo’olelo’s performance next Friday night, March 16, at 7:30 p.m.
I’ll be there and would love to meet you at intermission. Then, send me your thoughts afterward and we’ll include some reactions in a follow-up post in to our Embedded series.
If you’d like to go, send an email to Summer Polacek at summer@voiceofsandiego.org and she’ll send you a code for the member discount. (She’s out of the office until Monday, but will get back to you when she returns.)
So to recap, if you’ve yet to see the play, here are two great options:
• Get $5 off any of the remaining performances by entering the code “mystory” — open to all VOSD readers of our Embedded series.
• Get tickets for just $10 for next Friday night’s performance by emailing Summer for a discount code — open to VOSD members.
The play runs through March 18 at the 10th Avenue Theatre downtown.
