At the mayoral candidates’ first televised debate, Carl DeMaio dropped a bombshell of a claim to support an expanded Convention Center.

DeMaio, a fierce opponent of tax increases, was asked to explain why he supported the plan when previous Convention Center construction projects were voted on by the public. He said he supported it because the project would be done by “private investment from the hoteliers.”

In this edition of Fact Check TV, Andrew Donohue and Scott Lewis examine how the expansion would be funded and whether DeMaio’s description was accurate.
