All over town, artists are opening spaces to show their own and fellow artists’ work. Lauren Popp’s got her finger on the pulse of what’s happening in local visual art. She’s an assistant curator at the New Children’s Museum.
“These spaces really create community and they are a vital platform for young, emerging artists,” Popp said.
Popp joined us at our “Meeting of the Minds” event this week atop Westfield Horton Plaza’s parking structure. She painted that explosion in context, using 20 images displayed for 20 seconds each. Here’s a video of her presentation, filmed by our partners at the Media Arts Center.

• Periscope Project, repurposed cargo containers, in East Village.

• These spaces’ predecessors: Centro Cultural de la Raza in Balboa Park, Southwestern College’s art gallery, Sushi Contemporary Performance and Visual Arts (which closed its doors in 2011).
