This was submitted as an idea to the Politifest 2012 Idea Tournament. VOSD members will vote on the best ideas and on Sept. 19 we’ll announce six contenders (Not a member? Join now to vote). At Politifest on Sept. 29, each of the six finalists will have five minutes to pitch their idea to a panel. The panel rates the ideas and two finalists advance. The crowd at Politifest will vote on a winner. The winner will receive an “idea-inspired” trophy custom-designed by former City Councilwoman Donna Frye. VOSD CEO Scott Lewis will also write about the winner’s idea.
There has been a major increase in riders of two-wheeled motor vehicles, such as motorscooters and motorcycles (collectively, cycles), but there has not been any increase in parking for those vehicles. It can be real frustrating to be looking for a small space for a cycle and have only two cycle spaces with five cycles parked (crammed) in those few spaces.
My idea is simple — re-line some of the car parking spaces for motorscooters and cycles. The convenience will further increase ridership of these vehicles which can get gas mileage up to 100 miles per gallon. This can be done in Balboa Park, downtown, beaches, the zoo and many of the communities around San Diego. Could also make the parking free for the “cycles” where it is now paid in some areas.
