Here are some readers’ recent thoughts on the issues:

Alberta Gittelsohn:

We have just canceled our subscription to U-T San Diego, fed up with its biased coverage and outrageous editorials. We are now subscribing to the Los Angeles Times and hope this website will help in covering things “San Diego.”

Rick Myhre:

Catherine, I’m completely with you on canceling U-T San Diego — I let my subscription lapse in June (although they kept throwing it until I finally told them to stop in September).

I’ve subscribed to the local paper faithfully — wherever I’ve lived — since I was 13 (I’m 60) and have given the U-T under publisher Doug Manchester many months the benefit of the doubt. I’ve subscribed here in Lemon Grove since 1990, first with the Tribune (under Neil Morgan, one of the founders of VOSD, don’t you know) then the combined Union-Tribune under the Copleys. But I didn’t sign on at $280 per year for a San Diego version of the Manchester (NH) Union-Leader. After I read recently that Manchester was closing the deal on the North County Times, with the loss of half its staff, well, that was the final nail in the coffin.

It’ll be more work, via computer, finding the things I always found in the paper daily — sports data, for example and the local section, telling me what happened in my neighborhood — but in this age, they’re out there. I’ll find them — without any help from Manchester and his minions.

Meanwhile, for the newspaper of record for San Diego County, an old covenant between papers and their readers has been broken. Like you, I finally had enough.

Ralph Sedgewick:

This is just a less obvious version of U-T San Diego.

If I see Bob Filner get fact checked one more time I’m going to vomit! Enough already, you’re in the tank for Carl DeMaio, I get it.
