I have to share this note from Liz Hirsch about the first meal she cooked for herself and her housemates. Hirsch recently moved into a house with other women 50 and older to learn self-sufficiency skills. Hirsch had been sleeping in shelters for the last few months. She titled the email “Ex-Homeless Woman Cooks Up a Storm.”

Here’s her report (and a recipe!), along with a suggestion that Reps. Nancy Pelosi and John Boehner might benefit from this kind of communal experience:
