The friends a politician keeps can tell you something about their style and the policies they might favor as the city’s top elected official. We put together a handy guide to the mayoral candidates’ top endorsers.
Councilman Kevin Faulconer has the friends you’d largely expect for a Republican: business groups and Republican leaders.
And Councilman David Alvarez has won the support of top Democrats.
But former Assemblyman Nathan Fletcher has received a smattering of endorsements from both business and labor groups. Fletcher, a Democrat who didn’t receive the party’s official backing, has instead cobbled together a diverse mix of backers.
Meanwhile, long-shot Democratic candidate Mike Aguirre has only received one high-profile endorsement and it came from weekly Latino newspaper La Prensa San Diego.
Here’s a look at the other mayoral contenders’ major endorsements.
